Shellfisher Associations in West Africa
Shellfisher associations, constituted mainly by women, play a major role in the management and trade of shellfisheries in West Africa. There have been more than twenty identified women shellfisher associations along the coast of West Africa since 2015. The WA Shellfish Hub provides an opportunity to harmonise the efforts of these associations. The WA Shellfish Hub is also connecting these women-led associations for an empowered collective action in the shellfisheries space for immediate and long-term shared goals.
